Summary
Jose (Pepe) Mazcorro received his degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL, 2005). Later, he received his Ph.D. degree from Texas A&M University (2011) for his work on the gastrointestinal microbiota of small animals. In collaboration with several groups of researchers, he has published several peer-reviewed research and review papers. He has presented his research in multiple national and international platforms, including the Symposium of the International Society of Microbial Ecology. His work focuses on the use of molecular and computational tools to study complex microbial ecosystems. He is particularly intrigued by ribosomal evolution, and particularly of the 16S rRNA gene, as well as coevolution of microorganisms with animal and human hosts.
