Robert H McDonald

Robert H. McDonald is Dean of University Libraries and Professor of Library Administration. He is responsible for leading the Boulder campus library system in fulfilling their mission to inspire learning, research, and discovery by connecting knowledge, information, and people.

His expertise and interests include teaching and learning technologies that enable libraries to better support researchers at all levels, open source software development, scholarly communications, and new model publishing. Robert has also been an active proponent of diversity initiatives in libraries throughout his career and is committed to creating library spaces that are welcoming, diverse and inclusive for all of our Library users.

Gang Mei

Dr. Gang Mei is an Associate Professor in Scientific Computing in Engineering at China University of Geosciences (Beijing). He received his Ph.D degree in 2014 from the University of Freiburg in Germany. His main research interests are in the areas of Numerical Simulation and Computational Modeling, GPU Computing, Machine Learning, Data Mining, and Network Science and Applications. He is the IEEE Member, and has served as an Academic Editor for the journals IEEE Access, and PeerJ Computer Science.

Christopher J Mungall

I am a Computer Research Scientist in the Environmental Genomics and Systems Biology division at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. My work focuses on computational methods for representing and interpreting complex biological data, in particular through the development and application of knowledge representation structures such as ontologies.

Anand Nayyar

Dr. Anand Nayyar received his Ph.D (Computer Science) from Desh Bhagat University in 2017 in the area of Wireless Sensor Networks and Swarm Intelligence. He is currently working in Graduate School, Duy Tan University, Da Nang, Vietnam. A Certified Professional with 75+ Professional certificates from CISCO, Microsoft, Oracle, Google, Beingcert, EXIN, GAQM, Cyberoam and many more. Dr. Nayyar has published more than 350 Research Papers in various National & International Conferences, International Journals (Scopus/SCI/SCIE/SSCI Indexed) with a high Impact Factor. He is a member of more than 50+ Associations as Senior and Life Member and also acting as ACM Distinguished Speaker. He has authored/co-authored cum Edited 25+ Books of Computer Science. Associated with more than 500 International Conferences as Programme Committee/Chair/Advisory Board/Review Board member. He has 5 Australian Patents to his credit in the area of Wireless Communications and Artificial Intelligence. He is currently working in the area of Wireless Sensor Networks, MANETS, Swarm Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Blockchain, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Cyber Security, Network Simulation, Wireless Communications. Kok Yew Ng

I received a BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering and a Ph.D. in Fault Diagnosis and Control System from Monash University in 2006 and 2009, respectively. I am now a Lecturer at the School of Engineering, Ulster University, UK, and I am attached to the Nanotechnology and Integrated BioEngineering Centre (NIBEC). My research interests include fault diagnosis, vehicular systems, modelling, and data analytics for anomaly detection and classification.

In 2014–2015, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Division of Vehicular Systems, Linköping University, Sweden, where I worked with Volvo Car Corporation (VCC) on advanced fault diagnosis schemes in vehicular engines using model-based and data-driven methods.

I am also a co-investigator in SAFEWATER, a £5 million project funded by GCRF, where I lead the development and the optimisation of embedded algorithms in the SAFEWATER project. These embedded algorithms will be used for controlling the low-cost water disinfection technologies that are being developed during the SAFEWATER project.

I am also an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow with Monash University Malaysia where I served as a Lecturer from 2009, and subsequently a Senior Lecturer till 2017.

I am a Senior Member of the IEEE.

I am the Moderator for the IEEE TechRxiv and the Associate Editor of IEEE Access.

Charles Ofria

Professor of Computer Science at Michigan State University; Director of the Digital Evolution Laboratory and Deputy Director of the BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action.

Charles Ofria director of the Digital Evolution Laboratory. He conducts research on evolution in artificial systems and applies the results to problems in computer science and evolutionary biology. He developed Avida, a software-based research platform consisting of populations of 'digital organisms used in biological research. His work has been published in Science and Nature and his research has received international media attention in forums such as Discover Magazine, National Geographic, CNN, the BBC, New Scientist, and the New York Times.

Scientific coordinator of the Institutional Bioinformatics Platform. CNPq Level 2 Research Productivity Scholar (Genetics). Permanent professor at the Graduate program on Systems and Computational Biology IOC, Fiocruz. Graduated in Biological Sciences - Genetics major - from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2006), with a Master's degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from the IOC (2008) and PhD in Biophysics from UFRJ (2012). Through high performance technologies for DNA sequencing and computational data analysis, I investigate the effects of pollution on fauna, using fish as model organisms, and their responses and genetic adaptations to pollutants, especially those involved in the xenobiotic biotransformation system.

Claire B Paris

Claire Beatrix Paris is a Professor in the department of Ocean Science, University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. Director of the Physical-Biological Interactions Lab, she focuses on biophysical dispersion at sea, as well as the transport and fate of pollutants and oil spills from deep-sea blowout. Paris has brought recognition to the key role of behavior of the pelagic larval stage in the connectivity of marine populations and the function of ecosystems.

Paris has developed numerical and empirical tools for her laboratory’s research, both used worldwide: the Connectivity Modeling System (CMS) is an Open-Source Software (OSS) that virtually tracks biotic and abiotic particles in the ocean, and the Drifting In Situ Chamber (DISC) is a field instrument used to track the movement behavior of the early life history stages of marine organisms and detect the signals they use to orient and navigate.

Ivan Miguel Pires

Dr. Ivan Miguel Pires is a web and mobile developer, and adjunct professor at Instituto Politécnico de Santarém, Portugal.

Related to the back-end development:
He has worked with native PHP and OutSystems, and some PHP frameworks, including Zend, Symfony, Yii, Silex and Wordpress.

Related to the database development:
Dr. Pires has primarily worked with MariaDB and MySQL.

Related to the client-side development:
Dr. Pires has worked with native JavaScript, BackboneJS, UnderscoreJS, jQuery, jQueryUI, AngularJS, Angular 2, Angular 4 and others.

Related to the mobile development:
Dr Pires' primary research experience is related to the Android development. With additional training in Swift 3.

Related to my academic experience:
Dr. Pires was awarded a MSc in Computer Science and Engineering. Following this, his research focused on the use of mobile devices' sensors for the development of a platform related to Ambient Assisted Living.

Dr. Pires was awarded his PhD, and following this, his research has focused on the automatic recognition of Activities of Daily Living to be implemented as a module for the development of a personal digital life coach.

James B Procter

I studied Chemistry at The University of York, Computer Science at The University of Leeds, and obtained a PhD at the Australian National University. I worked on the comparison, classification and prediction of protein structure at ANU and in Germany at the University of Hamburg before joining the Jalview project in Dundee in 2004.
I co-founded the VIZBI conference in 2009, and joined PeerJ CS as Academic Editor in 2014. I serve on a variety of biological and computer science peer review panels and conference program committees. I'm interested in how we can do better science by creating better tools for data analysis and communication.

Sven Rahmann

Prof. Sven Rahmann is professor of Algorithmic Bioinformatics at the Center for Bioinformatics, Saarland University, Saarbrücken, Germany. Previously, Sven was UA Ruhr Professor of Computational Biology and Genome Informatics at the Faculty of Medicine at Duisburg-Essen University (2011-2021), associate professor for Bioinformatics for High-Throughput Technologies at the Chair of Algorithm Engineering, Computer Science Department, TU Dortmund (2007-2011). Sven wrote his doctoral thesis on oligonucleotide design for microarrays in the Computational Molecular Biology group at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin.
