Summary

Dr. Tadesse is a principal scientist and bread wheat breeder at the International Centre for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA). He leads the spring bread wheat breeding program at ICARDA which is based at Rabat, Morocco. The programs focusses for the development of widely adapted and high yielding wheat genotypes with resistance to major biotic (diseases and insects) and abiotic (drought, heat) stresses for Central and West Asia and North Africa (CWANA) and Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) regions. The program distributes more than 400 elite spring bread wheat genotypes on annul basis through International Nurseries to national agricultural research programs across the world. In the last 10 years alone, more than 60 wheat varieties of ICARDA-origin have been released by the national programs in the CWANA and SSA regions. Dr Tadesse has supervised more than 20 PhD and M.Sc. students and published more than 60 manuscripts in ISI journals. He has presented many conference papers as invited speakers including at the wheat International conferences and congresses.
