Rogerio Sotelo-Mundo –– The method proposed by Bracci et al. provides a practical assay to evaluate antiviral compounds using a cellular assay that does not rely on reverse transcriptase-PCR. The use of milder human coronavirus strains HCoV-229E and OC43 in BSL-2 biosafety conditions will permit the evaluation of potential drugs in an in vitro antiviral assay.
