What exactly do you mean by contemporary with respect to protein complexes like mTOR?

I am not sure what the following statement is implying: "Some proteins as mTOR complexes are big, contemporary, the number of activated kinases increments". Is contemporary referring to mTOR like complexes form an evolutionary point of view. Perhaps the author could make this point clearer.
