Thank you for this nice work relating geometric parameters to mechanical test behaviour in bone. That BV/TV is the main determinant of (apparent) yield stress and elastic modulus is well known. I suspect that the strong relationships you find with SMI are due not to its contribution to mechanics but to its well-known confounded relationship with BV/TV....
