It is increasingly accepted that this species is Squalus suckleyi and hence the common name is the Spotted spiny dogfish, and not the Spiny dogfish. Since this is a model species in physiology is it now timely to consider whether to start calling this species by its recognized name and then we can work to retrospectively partition previous literature on 'Spiny dogfish'.
