Controls - Experimental Design

The conclusions strongly suggest a negative relationship between terrestrial sediment load and % larval settlement. Although a control of no sediment added was mentioned in the methods, the results for the control are not highlighted in the results/discussion. Is the control included in Fig. 4 at x=0? If so, it indicates that no settlement ocurred and thus an opposite conclusion would have to be drawn: the addition of terrestrial sediment enhances % settlement as many more larvae settled in the presence of sediment than the control at x=0. If this is not the case, and the control is not included in Figure 4, then a more in depth discussion should describe the details of controls to support your conclusions. For example, what was the recruitment rate for the control as compared to the 2 to 3% you report. Is it close to the ~50% in the reference you cited, Tran and Hadfield (2012), or for that matter, any other references you can find?
