It has been several years since the implementation of your diagnostic matrix to aid in categorizing Osmundaceous specimens. Is there a specific name used for this tool? Have there been alterations to it since its creation? Has the scientific community adopted and standardized this diagnostic tool? My final question concerns use of the tool when facing a novel species for which new and different characters are discovered. Is there a limitation to the tool in that regard? Would the examiner need to resort to more archaic forms of identification, ones that are not as precise, such as comparing the number of basal xylem strands within the xylem cylinder? Thank you.
