Is there any experimental/computational support to the suggestion that cell differentiation really postpones the initiation of cell division?

This manuscript presents an interesting hypothesis, but does not explain how its comparison of cancer/differentiation to a script is more than a semantic issue. Specifically, is there any experimental/computational support to the suggestion that cell differentiation really postpones the initiation of cell division ( which leads to the comparison to the inclusion of extra loops in a script delaying its execution)?
