Several free, open-source tools that do not rely on proprietary code are available

Dear authors, thanks for this work.

Just a note regarding your statement that "software currently available for data analysis employ proprietary platforms and thus limit accessibility".

This is incorrect since several free, open source software that does not rely on proprietary components (such as matlab) have been developed and are available. To my knowledge, the following tools (non-exhaustive list) comply with these criteria:

- influx_s (2012), doi: 10.1093/bioinformatics/btr716

- sysmetab (2016), doi: 10.1109/TCBB.2016.2544299

- python version of openmebius (2014), https://doi.org/10.1016/j.meteno.2016.06.001

Reference to these tools, which do not rely on proprietary code and work in various operating systems, should have been included.
