This is a nice article. Did the authors observe brown rot of damaged fruits? Brown rot of apple fruits typically requires wounding (insect or bird) and I would imagine that damage caused by birds earlier in the fruit ripening phase would promote a larger fruit rot epidemic. I was surprised to see very little mentioned about fungal diseases in this article and simply wonder if perhaps the disease is not present in the area this study was conducted. Thank you!
