Excellent synthesis. The low study rate for some subspecies is a challenge. (i) is cross-over in inference of sightings possible between subspecies and (ii) did studies report direct and indirect observations? I was thinking in that some animal observation studies, the target taxa/species is 'captured' ie via animal cameras but many other animals are also recorded and sometimes reportedly only indirectly. Prey, other species, competing predators etc. are also important data for conservation decisions and moves from taxa-specific conservation to more networked management.
