David G Delaney
Summary
Dr. David Delaney is owner of Delaney Aquatic Consulting. He completed his post-doctoral researcher in Alan Friedlander's Fisheries Ecology Research Lab at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s and earned a PhD from McGill University's Department of Biology. While originally from Boston, he has conducted research on four continents and currently lives in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. His previous research includes studying great white sharks in South Africa, Darwin’s finches in the Galapagos, invasive species around the globe, sustainable ecotourism, and manta rays in Mozambique. His expertise is multidisciplinary but mainly falls into the fields of conservation, invasion ecology, marine biology, participatory science, and oceanography. He has been scuba diving since 1994 and is an AAUS certified scientific diver. He has been involved with marine conservation and education since 2001 and has been in the consulting industry since 2013. Dr. Delaney has given hundreds of presentations to diverse audiences including academics, managers, and the public. For a presentation given at the Ecological Society of America annual meeting, he received the Pielou Award for an oral presentation on statistics in ecology. Also, he conceived, led, and sustained a thousand-person strong citizen science organization monitoring invasive species from 2004-2011 and for this work, he was awarded a Visionary Award from the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment.
