Summary

Markus Luczak-Roesch is a Senior Lecturer in Information Systems at the School of Information Management, Victoria Business School, Victoria University of Wellington (NZ).

A computer scientist by education, Markus asks research questions on the fundamental properties of information in socio-technical systems as well as humans in the information age. He is particularly interested in intelligence rooted in coincidence. A recent activity lined up with Markus’ hypothesis that there is a general way of finding meaningful relationships in coincidence is the development of a reactive, cross-system crowdsourcing engine that lets collective problem solving activities emerge without the need for an a priori composition of a dedicated task or human collective (http://social-computer.org).

Among the information systems Markus is studying are online communities, peer-production as well as crowdsourcing systems, and, most significantly, citizen science platforms. He approaches this space by mixing methods commonly used in Web Science, Data Science, and Computational Social Science.

Markus also developed a research profile on ontology and data life cycle management, semantic text annotation tools as well as Web of Data usage mining.
