This research complies with current Irish legislation and the ethical guidelines for the use of animals in research as outlined by the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour. This study did not involve any invasive procedures and the management of the birds was in keeping with usual poultry management practices. Thus further ethical approval was not deemed necessary.
