Summary

Dr. José R. Castro was born in Quito, Ecuador and decided to become a veterinarian when he was just 7 years old.

He obtained his DVM from the Central University of Ecuador in December of 2000. He is board certified in Equine Practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners; in Large Animal Surgery by American College of Veterinary Surgeons and since January of 2015 he became Certified Veterinary Acupuncture-(Equine) by the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.

His professional interests include equine surgery, sports medicine and acupuncture.

Currently he is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee, Veterinary Medical Center where he works as an equine surgeon and acupuncturist.
