Born in 1965 in Merton, England, third son of four to an english dad and a Finnish mum.
Schooled in London area attaining good grades on leaving school (5 A-grade A-levels)
Undergraduate at Edinburgh University completing degree in veterinary medicine and surgery and intercalated degree in veterinary physiology (upper second class).
Two years in general mixed veterinary practice
One year as house officer in University of Liverpool Small Animal Hospital
PhD studies in the Physiological Laboratory at Liverpool University (Wellcome funded)
Two years as a lecturer in the University of Liverpool Small Animal Hospital followed by three year post-doc in the Physiological Laboratory at Liverpool University.
Then back to the SAH as a lecturer in 2002 and promoted to senior lecturer in 2012.
