Niraj K Nirala
Dr. Niraj Kumar Nirala, currently working as a research scientist in the laboratory of Prof. Tony Ip, at University of Massachusetts Medical School, USA. His research area focused on adult intestinal stem cell homeostasis and tissue regeneration. He obtained his PhD in plant biotechnology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. As a postdoctoral research associate at University of Massachusetts Medical School, he explored his interest in understanding molecular and physiological functions of sphingolipids and their metabolites in cellular metabolism using Drosophila (fruit fly) and mouse as a model organisms. Later he joined Riken Center for Developmental Biology, Japan, as a research scientist, where he studied mechanical control of epithelial invagination via junctional protein α-catenin. He has more than nine years of research experience in the field of sphingolipid, cellular metabolism, epithelial morphogenesis, stem cell and regeneration biology. Dr. Nirala’s works have been published in many highly respected journals such as Dev Cell, JCB, PLoS Genetics etc. He is a member of various scientific society (GSA, ASCB, JSDB, JSCB, ISSCR). He served as a peer reviewer for several scientific journals (International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, American Journal of Molecular Biology, Stem Cells Investigation, Journal of Advances in Molecular Biology, PloS One, Metabolism).
