Large morphomatrices – trivial data
phylonetworks.blogspot.com
Large morphomatrices provide a wealth of information, including trivial phylogenetic signals. The post explores the coherence of the signal from the best-covered OTUs (via non-parametric bootstrapping) and shows that there are little differences between parsimony (preferred method in palaeontology) and distance-based or maximum likelihood. And how the simplest and quickest of (phylogenetic) networks, the Neighbour-Net, can be used for pre- and post-analysis exploratory data analysis, e.g. to quickly assess the phylogenetic neighbourhood of a target fossil.
