My research line is Evolutionary Biology with a particular emphasis on the Evolution of Reproductive Behavior using as study models mainly Lepidoptera, Odonata, reef fishes, cichlids, and macaws. My interest in the evolution of mating systems involves understanding how the interaction between natural and sexual selection shapes not only sexual ornamentation but also morphological, metabolic, and physiological traits that determine the performance and reproductive success of individuals, combining morphological analyses, molecular techniques and a phylogenetic context to integrate comparative biology approaches that allow us to trace the evolutionary pathway and determine the adaptive value of morphological traits (e. g. color, size, shape).
I am currently advising undergraduate and graduate theses on:
-Evolution of Mating Systems in Insects
-Evolution of Territorial Behavior
-Parental Care in Fishes and Macaws
-Thermal Ecology in Insects
-Visual Ecology
