Summary
In my current role as Investigator at Leipzig University, leading the ophthalmological examination for two large population based studies, I – amongst other techniques - employ ophthalmological imaging to objectively investigate the structure of the retina. My skills cover both theoretical and applied aspects of optics, vision science and ophthalmology as well as management and leadership expertise (e.g. administration and management, focused analytical skills, the ability to work in and lead a multi-disciplinary team, the ability to work with patients, experimental design, and presentation skills). My expert knowledge in Optometry, Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics and Engineering is an ideal base to study retinal structure in age-related macular degeneration and its relationship to visual function. By systematically investigating a large population based sample, I am able to obtain retinal in-vivo measurements, detect sub-clinical and clinical signs and extract inter-relationships leading to a new knowledge base. I currently work on detection of pre-clinical changes leading to early recognition and early diagnosis of eye disease for a better therapy approach.
