Riversleigh Symposium 2016, hosted by the Riversleigh Society and the Palaeontology, Geobiology and Earth Archives (PANGEA) research centre, was held from the 5th-7th December at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia.

2016 marked the 40th anniversary of research by the Riversleigh Project team, a group including more than 100 researchers from 26 institutions and 11 countries. This was the fourth symposium with others being hosted at UNSW in 1994, 1998 and 2006.

The symposium included presentations from undergraduate and postgraduate students, academics and researchers, on scientific research relevant to the fossil deposits, flora and fauna of the Riversleigh World Heritage Area, north-western Queensland. Presentations included topics encompassing biocorrelation, biodiversity, biogeography, the history of research, geology, geochemistry, morphology, palaeo-conservation, palaeoecology, invertebrate and vertebrate palaeontology, phylogenetics, taphonomy and taxonomy.
