German Conference on Bioinformatics 2017 Collection - a PeerJ Collection

The "GCB 2017 Collection" contains research work that is presented at the German Conference on Bioinformatics (GCB) 2017 at Tübingen, September 18-21, 2017. All papers and highlight abstracts were peer-reviewed by the conference's Program Committee and/or by external reviewers, and poster abstracts have been checked for suitability to GCB.

The German Conference on Bioinformatics (GCB) is an annual, international conference dedicated to all areas of bioinformatics and theoretical systems biology. Being one of the oldest annual bioinformatics meetings in Europe, this year's edition is already the 25th since 1993. Every year it attracts more than 200 participants.

GCB 2017 is organised by the Center for Bioinformatics, encompassing bioinformatics groups of the University of Tübingen and the Max-Planck Institute for Developmental Biology, in cooperation with the advisory board of the joint special interest group Bioinformatics ("Fachgruppe Bioinformatik", FaBI) of the German Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (DECHEMA), the Society for Computer Science (GI), the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM), the Society of German Chemists (GDCh), and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie e.V. (GMDS).

During the three days of the conference an exciting program of keynote lectures, contributed talks, poster sessions and an industry session is offered. An additional fourth day, scheduled before the main event, provides workshops that provide detailed knowledge about different cutting-edge computational biology topics. As distinguished keynote speakers, Ruth Ley (MPI for Developmental Biology, Germany), Richard Neher (University of Basel, Switzerland), Mihai Pop (University of Maryland), and Barbara Treutlein (MPI for Evolutionary Anthropology, Germany) have been invited to deliver a talk about their leading-edge research.

The conference is supported by a number of benefactors listed below. We would like to express our sincerest "Thank You" to all those who support or help to organize the conference, as well as to all participants who will make GCB 2017 a success.
