Kaohsiung Medical University (formally a College) was established in 1954, the very first private medical college in . Three yours later, in 1957, we established the first private dental school in within our university, accredited by the Ministry of Education. To date, the School of Dentistry is over half a century old of 52 years. In 1985, we established the very first MS program in Dentistry in our country, followed by setting up a Ph.D. degree program in 1990, the first such program in Dentistry in . In 1992, we further established the first Graduate Institute for Oral Health Science (GIOS); providing the concrete basis for promoting dental public health in our country. In order to offer further clinical-basic science training for denstists on a continuing bases, the On-the-Job MS program was founded within the graduate institute of dental and oral health sciences in 1999. This program has a special feature focusing on “Periodontal Prosthodontics training for the practicing dentists, and it is currently the only one of its kind in . With the refinement of the university’s organization and mandates, we evolved into a full-sized College of Dental Medicine by 1999, providing our country's very first and foremost college-level professional education in all aspects of basic and clinical dental sciences, which is consisted of the School of Dentistry and a separate Department of Oral Hygiene. Our School of Dentistry runs four different programs: the undergraduate program for DDS training, the M.S. program and the Ph.D. program for graduate training and the On-the-Job MS program for the established dentists. In parallel, the Department of Oral Hygiene also has four programs: the undergraduate Hygiene program, the On-the-Job undergraduate program, the M.S. program and the On-the Job M.S. program.

The Department of Marine Biotechnology and Resources offers three kinds of degree programs: Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctorate degrees. The undergraduate program trains students from basic sciences to advanced technologies regarding to marine resources for reserving and managing the resources to be used sustainably. The curriculums focus mainly on biotechnology, marine biology, natural products, and chemistry, integrating with sciences related to invertebrates, planktons, physiology and physical and geological oceanography. Besides the lecture classes, the Department greatly emphasizes laboratory skill. There are 16 laboratory courses to cover biology, chemistry and some oceanography areas, to bridge both theories and applications. Expectedly, students can familiarize many operation procedures of the instruments for their advancing careers.

School of Dentistry
The former institute of the National Defense Medical Center, established in 1902, was recognized as the first military school in Chinese history. This center was the amalgamation of the Army Medical College, the Wartime Health Personnel Training Center and its 13 branches in Shanghai on June 1, 1947, and later, in 1949, moved to Taiwan. Following the annexation of the Tri-Service General Hospital, a total integration of basic and clinic department was achieved in 1983. In October, 1999, the school moved to the Nei-hu area of Taipei; in the next year, the Tri-Service General Hospital, the affiliated hospital, also moved to Nei-hu, where they were renamed collectively as the National Defense Medical Center. At the school, students can pursue course in eight different areas: medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, nursing, public health engineering, public health equipment, public health inspection, and public health administration. There are six different levels of course, including basic education, specialized education and medical technique training. It integrates teaching, research and medical care. In May 2000, the National Defense Medical Center was incorporated with Armed Forces University, National Defense Management College, and Chung Cheng Institute of Technology to National Defense University. Employing the most advanced equipment and teaching methods, National Defense Medical Center has cultivated numerous high-level teachers, researchers and medical personnel. It has made a major contribution to raising medical standards in country and to the nation’s internationalization.

Faced with fierce business competition, rapid technological advancement, and the irresistible trend of globalization, many business managers are seeking the opportunities of continuous self-enrichment. Upholding the idea of promoting high quality management education for a better tomorrow, the College of Management, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) decides to better help senior managers to shoulder their heavy responsibility by offering the carefully designed Executive MBA (EMBA) program. We recruit the program distinguished faculty and provide first-class curriculum with the goal of cultivating twenty-first century new business leadership. Through systematic management training , diverse courses across various management disciplines, cross-industrial exchange of experiences, novel methods of teaching, and friendship establishment between teams and international companies, the EMBA program of NSYSU is deemed to achieve high -quality EMBA education. Many of our EMBA students work for companies from the Greater China region and multi-national companies, and taking advantage of their weekends to return to Taiwan to attend classes. Apart from this, apart from traditional, financial or technological industries, there are also students from public offices, state-owned enterprises, medical sector, defense sector and media personnel, giving an even bigger advantage in establishing interpersonal networks. In line with international trend, the curriculum is incorporated with global issues and bring students to overseas countries (Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Hungary, Austria etc.) for seminars. In addition, in response to increasingly frequent Taiwanese-Chinese investment and increasingly open cross-strait policy, the program has added many Asia-Pacific management issues. The goal of this EMBA program is to enhance five major core competences of students, which include: Innovation and Information Technology capability, Leadership, Communication and Crisis management capability, Strategic Business Management capability, Problem solving capability and Global Business Management capability. 18 courses on Table 1 and 45 credits are provided in the two-year program.
