PeerJ and the Southern eDNA Society are proud to announce the launch of the SeDNAs Hub – https://peerj.com/hubs/sednas.

The Southern eDNA Society (SeDNAs) is a newly established society of environmental DNA researchers, aiming to promote science and industry collaboration across Australia and New Zealand, to advance best practice eDNA methods and adoption in government, private and community sectors. SeDNAs also host the Australian & New Zealand Environmental DNA (eDNA) Conference, this year taking place between 18 – 21st February in Wellington, New Zealand.

“We are delighted to invite researchers, practitioners, and innovators from across the eDNA field to share your work and engage with our vibrant community. As passionate advocates for environmental DNA (eDNA) methodologies and their transformative potential, we strive to advance best practices and foster collaboration across scientific, industrial, and community sectors. By contributing to the Hub, you’re helping to shape the future of eDNA—driving innovation, refining methods, and expanding the adoption of these cutting-edge techniques in government, private, and community initiatives.” SeDNAs Hub Editorial Team.

The term environmental DNA (eDNA) refers to the traces of DNA collected from environmental samples – such as soil, sediment, water, air – without knowledge of the original organism. eDNA methods offers universal and cost-effective ways to measure biodiversity, detect pests, and much more. It is a fast-moving and innovative field, and increasingly government agencies and industry are adopting it to support environmental management.

The SeDNAs Hub will promote cutting-edge research, innovations, and applications in eDNA from SeDNAs members and the global eDNA research community. Presubmissions will be assessed for community relevance by a dedicated Hub Editorial Team, with full submissions peer reviewed by the PeerJ Life & Environment journal.

To celebrate the launch of this Hub, the first 25 abstracts approved by the Hub Editorial Team before 14th March 2025 will be given a 100% waiver on the publication fee!
