IABO – the International Association for Biological Oceanography – were the first research association to partner with PeerJ and launch their own Hub. After working closely with IABO to create a design and functionality that delivered on our collective vision, the IABO Hub opened for submissions on the 27th of September 2022 and became the official publishing home of the International Association for Biological Oceanography. Since then, the IABO Hub has continued to publish the latest biological oceanography research from the members of IABO.
Submissions to the Hub are assessed by the Hub Editorial Team – all of whom are IABO members – to ensure that the research featured in the Hub is of interest to the wider IABO membership. Articles are peer-reviewed and published in the Open Access journal PeerJ Life and Environment. The IABO Hub has received over 150 submissions from IABO members all over the world, with many of these from new members who joined IABO to become part of the Hub Community and utilize the additional benefits offered by the Hub.

So far, 37 articles have been published, with plenty more under active peer review. IABO Hub articles have covered biological oceanography topics from microbes to killer whales, and have been viewed over 24,000 times.
To mark this anniversary, PeerJ have put together an abstract book of the articles published in the first year of the IABO Hub, which can be downloaded here. What is a Hub?
PeerJ Hubs (https://peerj.com/hubs) are a new publishing concept for scholarly societies and research organizations, providing a sustainable Open Access publishing option to help grow and develop partner associations. A PeerJ Hub is an overlay journal built on top of PeerJ’s existing infrastructure and journal portfolio, allowing societies and research associations to create a branded, Open Access publishing option for their members with minimal fuss.
