Call for Papers: The State of Active Seagrass Conservation and Restoration

The IABO Hub Editors call for papers for a Hub Special Issue highlighting the latest research focused on seagrass ecosystems.

Seagrass meadows are among the most productive ecosystems on Earth and play an essential role in biodiversity support, resilience, food security and blue carbon storage. Over the last few decades, a worldwide reduction in seagrass meadows has been recorded, and many natural and human-induced stressors have been identified. To halt degradation and promote recovery, successful management requires the conservation and preservation of existing meadows, as well as direct restoration intervention. As defined by the Society of Ecological Restoration, ecological restoration is the “process of assisting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged, or destroyed” and the need to accelerate restoration of degraded ecosystem led to the United Nations General Assembly declare 2021-2030 the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

This Special Issue invites the submission of research articles or literature reviews of scientific findings about seagrass ecosystem status, in the context of assessing conservation and active habitat restoration efforts. We encourage submissions that show results about (but not limited to) associated biodiversity, spatial coverage, biomass, carbon sequestration, nutrient dynamic, tourism impact, invasive species, ecosystem services, restoration and sustainable management.

Topics –

Including, but not limited to:
  • Seagrass Associated Fauna
  • Epiphyte Associated To Seagrass Leaf
  • Invasive Species
  • Direct Anthropogenic Impact On Seagrass Ecosystem
  • Seagrass Restoration Experiences
  • Taxonomy
  • Seagrass Sustainable Fisheries And Food Security
  • Seagrass Connectivity
  • Methods And Integrative Approaches For Seagrass Monitoring
  • Seagrass Beds And Climate Change

Submission Instructions:

Authors wishing to participate in this Special Issue must first submit an abstract to the IABO Hub. Abstracts will be assessed by the Hub Editorial Team, with approved abstracts invited for full submission to the PeerJ Life & Environment journal. When submitting an abstract to the IABO Hub, please add “Submitting to the Seagrass Special Issue” as a Note to Editor.

Anyone can submit an abstract for consideration for the Special Issue. To be included in the final Special Issue, accepted manuscripts must have at least one author who is a member of IABO. IABO membership is free. IABO members are eligible for a 10% discount on the PeerJ Life & Environment APC when submitting through the IABO Hub.
