PeerJ is delighted to announce that we will be partnering with the Alaska Marine Science Symposium (AMSS, https://alaskamarinescience.org/) to create a Conference Collection based on research presented at AMSS 2022. Submissions can be made by any researcher that presented at or attended the AMSS 2022 meeting, with successful submissions published in PeerJ Life & Environment.

2022 Alaska Marine Science Symposium

The Alaska Marine Science Symposium is Alaska’s premier marine research conference, and has been bringing together scientists, educators, resource managers, students, and interested public for over twenty years to discuss the latest marine research being conducted in Alaskan waters. Over 700 people typically attend this 4-day long conference held annually in Anchorage, Alaska during the month of January. Past symposia have included keynote speakers, more than 70 oral presentations, and over 225 poster presentations. For the past two years due to COVID-19, however, the Alaska Marine Science Symposium has been held virtually.

Each year, AMSS focuses on the three main marine ecosystems surrounding Alaska: the Gulf of Alaska, the Bering Sea & Aleutian Islands, and the Arctic.

PeerJ Awards

As with the 2021 AMSS, PeerJ are sponsoring six Student Awards at the symposium. The awards are for the Best  Oral Presentations (4) and Best Posters (2) as delivered by student attending the conference, with each winner receiving a free publication in any PeerJ journal (subject to peer review) and a feature on our blog to discuss their research.

AMSS 2022 Conference Collection

The AMSS 2022/PeerJ Life & Environment Conference Collection, will publish the latest research related to the Alaskan marine ecosystem. Research topics include – but are not limited to – ocean physics (climate & oceanography; lower trophic levels), fishes and invertebrates, seabirds, marine mammals, human dimensions, and habitatat/ecosystem perspectives. A particular focus of AMSS 2022 is Planning, Adaptation and Response to Climate Change.

Submissions can be made by any researcher that presented at or attended the AMSS 2022 meeting – please include “Submitted to the AMSS 2022 Collection (PJLE-COLL-AMSS)” in the Confidential Note to Staff field of the submission form.  Authors should review the submission instructions for PeerJ Life & Environment before submitting and should note that, if accepted for publication, they will be required to pay either an Article Processing Charge or for a PeerJ Lifetime Membership (a one-off payment for lifetime publishing privileges) – see https://peerj.com/pricing/ for details.
