The PeerJ Travel Grant was announced just over a month ago on April 27th, and since then we’ve had a huge amount of tweets from all corners of the globe. Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter – your entries have been truly inspiring and the variety of tweets we received just go to show the vast array of scientific research happening across the globe.
We truly wish we could have awarded all who entered with a $250 PeerJ Travel Grant as we feel everyone who entered was deserving of additional funding. Our decision to set up the Travel Grant came about after we sponsored Advancing Research Communication and Scholarship (ARCS) and we were reminded yet again that for early career researchers there is not always the funding available to be able to attend conferences and meet with peers. We wanted to be able to contribute in some small way ourselves to getting scientific researchers to events or meetings of their choosing, therefore the idea of the PeerJ Travel Grant was born.
Without further ado (drum roll please …) we are delighted to announce the two winners of our PeerJ Travel Grant competition. Congratulations go to Kara Wall and Pedro Coelho. Each will receive $250 of funding to contribute to their travel.
Kara Wall tweeted us with her image of sea urchins and her wish to attend the next Benthic Ecology Meeting to present on the patterns of urchin populations in the Gulf of Mexico.
Whilst Pedro Coelho tweeted us with some amazing images of the speed of a scorpion’s tale which he would like to present at the forthcoming Society of Experimental Biology Meeting in Prague this month.
Congratulations again to the winners – we hope you’ll appreciate the additional $250 funding and please do let us know how you get on at your chosen conferences.
