Milagros Jaén-Vargas
Summary
Milagros Jaén-Vargas was born in Panama in 1988. She received the B.S degree in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering at Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá in 2011 and a master’s degree in Project Management at Universidad Interamericana de Panamá in 2013.
From 2011 to 2018 she worked in the telecommunications industry specifically in the design and maintenance of fiber optics networks and their documentation through Geographic Information Systems (GIS); for companies such as Columbus Networks and Cable & Wireless Panama. During those years she was in charge of software training to coworkers located in countries of Central, South America, and the Caribbean, who formed the Columbus Corporation.
In 2018, she obtained a scholarship trough Instituto para la Formación de Recursos Humanos – Secretaría Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (IFARHU-SENACYT) Panama program. Due to this grant, she is doing her Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain. She is a student member of IEEE Region 8, and the EIT Health Alumni.
Currently, she belongs to the Assistive Technologies group within Bioinstrumentation and Nanomedicine Laboratory (LBN) at the Center for Biomedical Technology (CTB) located in Madrid, Spain. Furthermore, she is researching aims focused on blind or visually impaired people and the elderly, to develop technologies for their safe navigation, guiding, and rehabilitation. In addition, she is working with Artificial Intelligence, especially Deep Learning to recognize human activities and to study the movement and posture using wearables sensors: inertial sensors, motion capture systems.
