Review History

All reviews of published articles are made public. This includes manuscript files, peer review comments, author rebuttals and revised materials. Note: This was optional for articles submitted before 13 February 2023.

Peer reviewers are encouraged (but not required) to provide their names to the authors when submitting their peer review. If they agree to provide their name, then their personal profile page will reflect a public acknowledgment that they performed a review (even if the article is rejected). If the article is accepted, then reviewers who provided their name will be associated with the article itself.

Minor Revisions

The referral process is now complete. While finding your paper interesting and worthy of publication, the referees and I feel that more work could be done before the paper is published. My decision is therefore to provisionally accept your paper subject to minor revisions.

Basic reporting

The authors analyse implementation issue of spectral coding techniques. They present an in-depth analysis of various algorithms, including hardware specifications. The manuscript is clear and well-written. I have carefully read the manuscript, and do not have major advice for improvement.

Abstract and Intro are adequate. References are very complete and adequate. Minor suggestion: I suggest that the authors add the following reference to the Intro section, regarding application of combined servo’s and spectral coding:
J. A. H. Kahlman and K. A. S. Immink, Channel Code with Embedded Pilot Tracking Tones for DVCR, IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, vol. CE-41, no. 1, pp. 180-185, Feb. 1995, doi: 10.1109/30.370325. The reference deals with the spectral shaping of both embedded pilot tones and spectral nulls in digital magnetic video tape recording, (mini)DV, a very popular product in late 20th century.

**PeerJ Staff Note:** It is PeerJ policy that additional references suggested during the peer-review process should only be included if the authors agree that they are relevant and useful.

Minor typo’s: squre, square in Abstract etc should read square.

My conclusions: The manuscript is clear and well-written. It provides a thorough analysis of accuracy and hardware consequences of spectral coding. I advise to accept the paper as is after correcting the typo’s.

This manuscript is well-written, has sufficient knowledge about area, references. Also, it have correct results. I attached a document for a more detailed report.

Experimental design

The main idea of the research is well-defined and it has a clear represent. The calculations and proofs perform well technically. I attached a document for a more detailed report.

Validity of the findings

The original results in the manuscript contributes the research area and it seems effective and interesting. I attached a document for a more detailed report.
