Assistant Research Professor in the Center for Human Geography Research at El Colegio de Michoacán, A.C.An oceanographer turned environmental anthropologist, Nemer has worked with and learned from various members of the Comcaac community for 18 years. His primary research interest has focused on marine ethnomedicine. However, the prevailing neoliberal processes of privatization and dispossession occurring along the coasts of Mexico have recently pointed his research toward political ecology and critical analysis of resource management schemes. Currently, Nemer is Head of the Laboratories of Social Oceanography at El Colegio de Michoacán
