Summary
I have worked for 27 years (1992-2019) in the Forestry Commission in the areas of technical forestry training, forest planning and administration, forest auditing for sustainable forest management practices and in recent times international policies for effective forest governance. Over this period, I have written and supervised the preparation and implementation of several forest reserve management plans in forest districts and regions across Ghana. In addition, I have contributed to research and academic studies in the area of forest science and governance. I also double as an adjunct scholar at IESS, University of Ghana.
Currently, I lead a functional arm of the Timber Validation Department (TVD) that manages legal timber verification for Ghana-EU Voluntary Partnership Agreement which is a key component of the EU Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Action Plan. The field audit I manage covers international best practices in environment, socio-economic and logging standards necessary for the achievement of sustainable forest management and timber trade. Key achievements of my work at the TVD is the development of timber chain of custody manual and verification protocols which guides the Forestry Commission in the verification of legal timber.
