Summary

Prisila A. Mkenda is a PhD student in the Department of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Management at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science & Technology in Arusha, Tanzania. She is investigating the suitability of selected wild plant species located in field margins to support populations of natural enemies of common bean. The aim of the research is to identify candidate species that can be used to enhance the control of bean pests through ecological interventions. Her research contributed to a recently concluded Darwin Initiative project on ‘Harnessing agricultural ecosystem biodiversity for bean production and food security’ and was funded by the McKnight Foundation.
