Jens Zinke, professor at the University of Leicester, has been carrying out world-class research using quantitative field and laboratory methods for sedimentological, paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatological reconstructions of coral reef and island systems as well as land-ocean coupling mechanisms in the Indian Ocean region, the tropical Atlantic and Southeast Asia. His key philosophy is working with scientists across the Earth, Climate, Social and Biological Science, crossing traditional disciplinary boundaries to achieve novel research outcomes which enables the scientific community to better understand the long-term context and impacts of future environmental change in light of the ever increasing human pressure on these environmental processes. He is considered a leader in his research field by his peers.
His background in several disciplines, e.g. Masters in Paleontology, PhD on sea-level and seismic stratigraphy, sedimentology, dating of carbonate rocks and more recently in biogeochemical cycles and climate-controlled variations in ocean circulation over geologic time scale, as well as modern climate-human interactions, including ecological and climate modelling, provides him with a solid and broad understanding of the wider Geoscience, Physical Geography, Climate Science, Geochemistry, Paleontology and Marine Biology disciplines.
