Summary

I am in the the final year of my candidacy for a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, in the department of Biological Sciences at Ohio University. I am a member of the WitmerLab, and I study the anatomy, function, and evolution of neurosensory systems—in particular, the visual and vestibular systems of sauropsids. I am especially interested in how animal behavior and ecology impact and are impacted by the evolution of the visual apparatus and the semicircular canals. To get at that question, I use traditional and CT-based comparative techniques, geometric morphometrics, phylogenetic comparative statistics, and a novel method of measuring the function of the visual system that uses the principles of geometrical optics.
