Summary

My research focus is on Invasion Ecology. I am particularly interested in patterns and processes that explain the introduction of NIS (non-indigenous species) on the coast of Chile. In my working group we investigate different common vectors in the introduction of species (e.g. ship hulls, ballast water, activities related to aquaculture), factors that affect the establishment of NIS in recipient communities (e.g. evaluation of the biotic and abiotic resistance hypotheses in the field and laboratory), factors that affect the expansion of NIS, and the impact of NIS on recipient communities. My approach includes both ecological and genetic aspects that determine the dynamics of invasion, and the use of statistical tools to predict the probability of species occurrence under different scenarios.
