Summary

Dr. Zimmermann earned his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology under Dr. Robert L. Jernigan at Iowa State University and completed postdoctoral training under Dr. Jean-Pierre Kocher at the Mayo Clinic, Center for Individualized Medicine. This background of structural and systems biology research provides necessary tools for developing mechanistic models of how genetic variants alter function at a molecular level, and developing testable hypotheses derived from those models.

Dr. Zimmermann is an Assistant Professor of Bioinformatics at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and the director of the Bioinformatics Research and Development Laboratory at the Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center. He collaborates closely with strong clinical and basic science teams to develop processes for applying computational molecular and systems methods to genomic data interpretation.
