Phylogeny and evolution of Myrtea (Myrtaceae) Goal of this proposal: I seek to establish a strong phylogenetic hypothesis about the systematic position of species and genera of Myrtae from the Southern Cone of South America, in order to clarify the taxonomy of those forms, and contribute to the classification of the tribe. This effort will expand the sampling of existing phylogenies to include representatives of missing genera or species groups from the Southern Cone. The resulting phylogeny will be used to generate a more complete biogeographic hypothesis of the tribe, and provide the framework for exploring the evolution of characters of great adaptive significance.
