Summary

Bachelors degrees in Biology Faculdade de Humanidades Pedro II, Rio de Janeiro (researcher and teacher, 1988); MSc. and PhD in Geobotany at the Botanical Institute, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (1993); Since 1996 Professor (currently full Prof.) at the Botanical Dept. and general curator of the herbarium R, National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Main experience in Botany with emphasis on field work in Phytogeography, Floristics and Vegetation Ecology, mainly in neotropical montane, rock-dwelling and island floras and herbarium management. The most important professional achievement to date for our team was the eradication of feral goats from Trindade Island, South Atlantic, Brazil, followed by a monitored vegetation recovery (including the recovery of several endemic species previously considered extinct). Responsible for teaching Phytogeography at the Post Graduate programme in Botany of the National Museum. Deputy Director of the Museum (2002-2005 and 2006-2009).
