Summary

Jeanette Erdmann as director of the IIEG is interested in unravelling the genetics of complex diseases. During the last 10 years she has worked very successfully on the identification of genes involved in the pathogenesis of CAD/MI and DCM. Besides identification of disease-causing mutations her group is also involved in the functional characterization of risk genes using transgenic zebrafish and mice models. Furthermore, she is spokeswoman of the project committee of the e:Med program.

Jeanette Erdmann is DZHK-professor and director of the recently founded Institute for Cardiogenetics at the University of Lübeck. Since her PhD in 1996 she is interested in the genetics of complex diseases. She was one of the founders of CARDIoGRAM and is now co-chair of CARDIoGRAMplusC4D together with Prof. Samani (University of Leicester). CARDIoGRAM and CARDIoGRAMplusC4D oversee the largest sample sizes of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and myocardial infarction (MI) and genome-wide genotypic data. In November 2013 she reported, together with Prof. Schunkert, the first digenic mutation leading to MI in an exceptional large family from Western Germany.
