Iván A. Valdespino Q. holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the City University of New York and has conducted postdoctoral research at the California Academy of Sciences. Currently, he is a member of the National Research System of Panama and a Professor in the Botany Department of the University of Panama. He has been a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and Project Director of the Panama Mesoamerican Biological Corridor Project, as well as Secretariat Director of the Inter-American Biodiversity Information Network. He has published over 30 research papers and is actively working on the systematics of the genus Selaginella, in addition to his continued work in the area of biodiversity conservation and his association with various academic and research organizations.
