Catalina Perales-Raya
Summary
She is a senior scientist with 20 years of experience on cephalopod
biology and fisheries research. Her work focused on age and growth studies on the cephalopod target species of Central East Atlantic, allowed the development of pioneer ageing techniques
for benthic species as cuttlefishes and octopuses. She has more than 20 publications on cephalopods, being regular reviewer for scientific journals about this matter (Marine Biology, Hydrobiologia, ICES Journal of Marine Science, Fisheries Research, Fisheries Management and Ecology, Fishery Bulletin, among others). She is member of International Organizations related to cephalopods such as Cephalopod International Advisory Council (CIAC) and ICES
Working Group on Cephalopod Fisheries and Life History. She participated in 10 EU projects related to cephalopod and other marine resources. At the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, she is responsible of the Biology Laboratory and coordinates the team of Data Collection Framework (UE) for the CECAF area in the Canary Oceanographic Centre, where monitoring of Spanish fleets in NW Africa and Canaries is carried out. In recent years, collaborative research has been conducted with the aquaculture team for the improvement of octopus resources in both, wild and cultured populations. Several articles, congress communications and direction of research stays (Master Degree) related to this and other interdisciplinary fields on cephalopods have been produced.
