Summary
Ruth Leeney's work focuses on collecting baseline data on sawfishes and other elasmobranchs in developing countries, to inform fisheries management and conservation strategies. She also provides training and capacity-building to local teams and develops educational and outreach materials. She has over ten years of experience in marine mammal research, particularly on the fundamental ecology of coastal dolphins and acoustic monitoring of small cetaceans. She is the founder and director of Protect Africa's Sawfishes and the Sawfish Conservation Officer for the IUCN Shark and Ray Specialist Group.
