Dr. Butwick’s research focuses on clinical approaches and strategies to prevent or treat postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), a leading cause of severe maternal morbidity. He is investigating key risk factors for severe PPH and postpartum anemia among women who undergo cesarean delivery, and he has performed a number of outcome-based research studies that have broadened current knowledge of hemorrhage-related obstetric morbidity as well as transfusion utilization for patients who experience severe PPH.
