Summary
Expertise and Research Interests
My expertise has been developed in fisheries ecology and fisheries management. In particular I have worked with the Mexican tuna fishery.
I have been studying El Niño in the eastern Pacific related to captures of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacartes); some results showed a close relationship between El Niño and the recruitment of yellowfin tunas at the entrance of the Gulf of California. These results are useful to the tuna industry in Mexico and in the Eastern Pacific.
I have been also studding fish communities (big pelagic) in seamounts, islands and bays in the southern portion of the Gulf of California, Mexico. Also I am studying environmental factors related to fish distribution patterns (Dolphinfish), abundance and fish community structure. These resources are important to the commercial, sport and artisanal fisheries. As a research group we are relating the physical oceanography of the surrounding area with the community structure in these areas.
In environmental studies, I am working in Global changes related to coastal ecosystems. In particular vegetation and marine ecosystems in the southern Baja California peninsula and southern California. We published a scientific paper in the Journal of Global Change in Biology.
