Summary
My name is Mohamad Al Hassan, a Lebanese plant biology (molecular and biochemistry) researcher at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain.
I have lately defended my doctoral thesis (19th of January 2016) receiving maximum grades (Sobresaliente Cum Laude). My thesis entitled “Comparative analyses of plant responses to drought and salt stress in related taxa: A useful approach to study stress tolerance mechanisms” was carried out under the supervision of Pr. Oscar Vicente Meana and Dr. Monica Boscaiu at the "Instituto de Biología Molecular y Celular de Plantas (IBMCP)", UPV, Valencia, Spain.
My doctoral studies pivoted around the study of abiotic stress (salt and water) responses in genetically related halophytes and glycophytes via comparative analysis (investigations included monocotyledons (Juncus) and dicots (Plantago) genera containing species that range from salt and drought sensitive to extreme tolerance. Some crop species were also included in the study, such as Solanum lycopersicum, and Phaseolus). Responses to the aforementioned stresses were studied on the biochemical, physiological, as well as some molecular features (especially the antiporter vacuolar gene NHX1) and involved some aspects of microscopy.
