Alexis Kuerbis, LCSW, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College of the City University of New York. She is a substance abuse specialist with more than 20 years experience in a variety of clinical, public health and social services settings. Her research focuses on special populations struggling with substance use disorders, particularly problem drinkers, including women on welfare involved in the child welfare system, the GLBT community, and older adults. In addition, she has dedicated much of her research to examining the mechanisms of behavior change among the problem drinkers, using mobile technology. Dr. Kuerbis completed her doctoral degree in clinical social work at the Silver School of Social Work at New York University in 2009 where she received the Robert Moore Memorial Award for Excellence in Scholarship for her dissertation exploring the moderating effect of depression on the effectiveness of intensive case management with substance dependent women on Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). From 2007 until 2014, she was Clinical Director of Columbia Addiction Services and Psychotherapy Intervention Research (CASPIR) and Assistant Professor at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. She is currently Co-Investigator of several projects at the Center for Addiction Services and Psychotherapy Intervention at Northwell Health in Great Neck, NY.
