Summary

My research efforts concentrate around two main topics, one of which is the evolution of hypocarnivory in carnivores. I obtained my PhD degree in 2012 in the Centre for Research in Evolutionary and Environmental Anthropology at the University of Roehampton in London. My thesis work was based on ecomorphological analyses of ursid skeletal remains using 3D geometric morphometrics. My work focused mainly on functional morphology of the masticatory system in bears with special attention for hypocarnivory and herbivory in order to determine the diet of the cave bear (Ursus spelaeus).
In 2012 and 2013, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris, where I studied insular dwarfing in hominins, specifically Homo floresiensis and Callao Man.
I have also worked on size evolution, particularly on islands. In 2013 to 2015, as a Humboldt postdoctoral fellow at the Universität Bonn, I worked on growth, development and life history in Pleistocene mammalian insular dwarfs using histology, and μCT and Synchrotron data.
Currently, I am Head of the Mammology section at the ZSM and work on the covariation between hands and feet. I am also a member of the Dodo Research Project, which brings together interdisciplinary expertise from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Mauritius, Norway and the United States. In this framework, I work on a project regarding sexual dimorphism, weight and population structure in the dodo (Raphus cucullatus).
